About This Site

Top Crochet Tools publishes first-hand reviews, comparisons and how-to guides on the gear that makes crochet easier on the hands: ergonomic hooks, crafting gloves, yarn bowls, neck lights and project bags. Everything is written from the armchair of a left-handed, 5 foot 1 crocheter with 35 years of stitches behind her, so we notice what fits, what does not, and what only works for someone else.

Hand and Craft Safety

Crochet is repetitive work. Take regular breaks, stretch your hands and wrists, and stop if you feel pain, numbness or tingling. Nothing on this site is medical advice, and crafting gloves and ergonomic hooks are comfort products, not treatments. If hand or wrist pain lasts, talk to a doctor or an occupational therapist.

Hooks and scissors are sharp enough to hurt, so keep them in a closed case and away from small children and pets, who can also swallow stitch markers or tangle in loose yarn. Compression gloves should never feel tight or leave your fingers cold or discolored. Rechargeable neck lights contain lithium batteries, so charge them with a suitable cable on a hard surface, never under blankets, and do not shine a bright light directly into anyone's eyes. A loose yarn tail or a bag left on the floor is a trip hazard, especially on stairs.
